Ara: The Bhojpur police on Tuesday launched a crackdown against illegal sand mining on the banks of Sone river under Imadpur police station and seized 18 vehicles, including 12 trucks and six tractors, for illegally carrying sand.
The mining department has banned lifting sand from rivers and the sand ghats since the monsoon season started on June 15.
Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar said the police carried out the raid following a tip-off that about a dozen trucks had entered the river bank area for illegal sand mining.
