Mumbai: Two youths who smuggled 16 kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 16 crore from Bangkok were arrested at the city airport on Friday. The two from Malappuram in Kerala — Mohammed Thottungal (23) and Rasik Mulakkalakath (35) — were carrying the substance in their bags, said officials. A search of their baggage led to the recovery of 14 packets of a greenish, dry leafy substance which tested positive for narcotics. “This is not normal marijuana but hydroponic weed, valued at Rs 1 crore a kg,” said an official. —S Ahmed Ali
