13 MDM rice bags stolen from Koraput school

Koraput: Unidentified persons made off with 13 bags of rice meant for mid-day meal scheme at Government High School Gupteswar in Kandulbeda in Koraput district’s Boipariguda block. The stolen rice weighing around 650 kg was found to be missing on Feb 24.
The theft came to light when members of Maa Tarini Women Self-Help Group (SHG), which manages the school’s mid-day meal programme filed a police complaint at Ramagiri police outpost on Saturday.
“We found the storeroom’s lock broken when we arrived at the school on Feb 24. Upon inspection, we found several rice bags missing,” said Pravati Harijan, an SHG member. The group waited for the headmaster’s return before filing the police complaint as per protocol.
The school operates under the SC and ST development department. “We are examining all possible angles in this case,” said investigating officer Bishnu Madkami of Ramagiri police outpost .
