13 arrested for clash in Ganjam village | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Police arrested 13 people on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a group clash, which claimed three lives and left three others injured at Kharipalli village in Ganjam district on Tuesday evening.
“Two counter cases have been registered at Badagarh police station after the family members of the deceased lodged FIRs. We have arrested 13 people so far for their involvement in the clash,” said SP (Ganjam) Subhendu Kumar Patra. He said police were searching for other people allegedly involved in the incident.
A sharp-edged weapon and stone slabs used in the clash have been seized, he said.
The SP, along with senior police officers, rushed to the village and assessed the situation. “The situation is now under control. Despite this, three platoons of forces have been deployed, while sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Aska, inspector in-charge of Badagarh police station and other officers are camping in the village,” he said.
“We are keeping a strict watch on the situation. Patrolling will be intensified in the nearby villages,” the SP added.
Khadal Behera (70), his son Ratnakar (35), and Ramesh Behera (40), were killed in the clash. While the father-son duo died on the spot, Ramesh succumbed to his injuries at Dharakote hospital, police said.
Post-mortem was conducted at the sub-divisional hospital, Aska, on Wednesday and the bodies were handed over to their family members. The injured are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. Their condition is stable, sources said.
The incident took place due to a long-standing dispute over witchcraft being allegedly practised by the family members of Khadal, police said after conducting a preliminary investigation. Investigation is on to find out the exact cause of the incident.
