12 hurt as OSRTC bus overturns in S’garh | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: Twelve passengers were injured when an OSRTC bus travelling from Sundargarh to Puri veered off the road and overturned inside a farmland in Sundargarh district’s Bonai subdivision early on Saturday.
The incident occurred around 1.30 am on the Lahunipada-Bahadaposhi stretch of State Highway-10A under Lahunipada police station limits after the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, said police sources. The bus was carrying 42 passengers at the time of the accident.
Following the mishap, Mahulpada police were the first to arrive at the scene, followed shortly by Lahunipada police. They rescued 12 injured passengers, including four women, and transported them to the Bonai sub-divisional hospital for treatment. The remaining passengers were accommodated on another bus to continue their journey. Of the 12 injured, 10 were discharged after receiving medical care, while two were referred to Ispat General Hospital for further treatment on Saturday morning.
Lahunipada police have seized the bus and detained the driver for questioning. During interrogation, the driver said that he had been coughing repeatedly while driving, which made him feel uneasy and resulted in the loss of control over the vehicle.
“We have seized the bus and interrogated the driver. He has been allowed to go, but our investigation is ongoing,” said P K Jena, sub-inspector of Lahunipada police station.
