Mumbai: A tragic accident on Feb 5 claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl in Bandra East. Jafar Pathan, 36, who typically transported her and her brother by auto-rickshaw, opted to use his motorcycle that day. During their return journey from school, a collision with a dumper truck caused them to fall, with the truck’s front tyre fatally injuring Shifa Sheikh. The dumper driver later presented himself at BKC police station.
The victim, Shifa, lived in Motilal Nehru Nagar, Bandra East. She attended fourth class at Duruelo Convent High School in Bandra West, while her seven-year-old brother, Umar, studied at another nearby school. Their father, a tailor, had engaged an auto-rickshaw service for their daily school transport.
On Wednesday, Pathan decided to transport them home on his motorcycle rather than an auto-rickshaw. Allegedly travelling at high speed, Pathan’s motorcycle collided with a dumper truck. The truck’s front left tyre struck Shifa’s head and hand, causing critical injuries. Umar sustained minor injuries. tnn
