Rourkela: Officials of Bonai range in Sundargarh district arrested 10 poachers on Saturday night for killing four wild boars in east Dandpath reserve forest.
After receiving information on Saturday, Tikayatpalli forest section officials reached the spot. After spotting the forest officials, the poachers started to flee. But the officials managed to nab them and seized skin and meat of wild boars and trap materials.
Forest officials detained the 10 accused. During interrogation, the poachers said that on Friday midnight, they had set up traps to capture wild boars in east Dandpath reserve forest. After capturing four wild boars, they killed them.
The 10 poachers were arrested on Saturday night. They were identified as Charan Munda, Nalu Bhuyan, Dasarathi Bhuyan, Dilu Bhuyan, Punia Bhoi, Anjit Kumar Naik, Guna Bhuyan, Kusa Kisan, Sankar Munda and Surendra Naik. On Sunday, the accused were produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
“We are further investigating the case,” said D Nayak, range officer of Bonai.
