Mumbai: The Mahayuti govt has allocated 10 acres at Film City, Goregaon for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology. The institute will be developed along the lines of the Indian Institute of Technology and will cater to the audio, visual, animation, gaming, and entertainment sectors.
The ministry of information and broadcasting also decided to provide its land in Mumbai for the development of facilities for the audio, visual, and entertainment sectors. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to set up the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Mumbai, similar to IITs, to help develop the country’s creative economy.
“This will be the prime creative institute in the country. We have provided land at Film City. The Centre, state, and agencies like FICCI will come together to establish this one-of-a-kind institute. Along with this, the I&B ministry owns 240 acres at Malad to set up a world-class creative facility in collaboration with Maharashtra. This will enable Mumbai to become a global centre in creativity,” he said. “The WAVES event from May 1-4 will also put Mumbai on the creative economy map of the world,” Fadnavis said. A Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the institute was signed between the govt and the state on the occasion. Officials said the institute will be registered as a company, and a board of directors will soon be appointed to decide on the construction, curriculum, and degree to be awarded. At present, there is a private institute at Film City that provides training in various aspects of filmmaking, communication, and creative arts.
The development of Film City for entertainment services and tourism is among the 30 projects proposed by MMRDA to make the Mumbai Metropolitan Region a $300 billion economy by 2030.
