Patna: A man was shot dead and another critically injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on them at Pethiya Bazaar in Danapur, near Patna, on Saturday evening. The attackers, riding a motorcycle, fled immediately after the shooting.
Danapur ASP Bhanu Pratap Singh, who reached the spot around 8pm, said Dahi Gop, involved in land dealings, was standing outside his home when the gunmen arrived. “The miscreants, on a bike, reached the spot and began firing at him. Gorakhnath, one of Gop’s associates, was shot when he attempted to intervene,” Singh added.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital, but Gorakhnath succumbed to his injuries. His body was sent for postmortem while Gop was transferred from a private hospital in Raja Bazaar to PMCH for further treatment. “The forensic team has been called and police are investigating the incident,” the ASP said.
Singh added that CCTV footage from surrounding areas was being examined to identify the attackers. “At this stage, it appears the shooting was linked to a personal rivalry. Gop has a criminal background and we are investigating the case from all possible angles,” he added.
