1 dead, 6 injured as fire breaks out in Mumbai's Lokhandwala building

MUMBAI: A 34-year-old woman died and six others were hospitalised after a fire broke out early Saturday morning in a residential building in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West).
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) received the call at 2:39 am and declared a Level-I fire at Broke Land Building, located near Ashok Academy Lane. The fire was confined to Room No. 104 on the first floor of the ground-plus-eight-storey structure.
Officials said the blaze damaged electric wiring, air conditioning units, wooden furniture, documents, and other household items. It was brought under control by 5.30 am.
Seven residents suffered from smoke inhalation. Most were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals by fire personnel using private vehicles and 108 ambulances.
One woman identified as Abhina Kartik Sanjanvalia (34) was declared dead on arrival at Kokilaben Hospital.
Among those critically affected are Aparna Gupta (41), Daya Gupta (21), Rihan Gupta (3), and Pradumna Gupta, a 10-day-old infant. All four have been admitted to the ICU at Kokilaben Hospital.
Another resident, Kartik Sanjayvalia (40), is being treated in the ICU at Cooper Hospital, while Polam Gupta (40) was treated at Trauma Hospital and later discharged.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
